Scope and Content note This collection is comprised of the single volume portfolio of sketches and photographs of Walter Hinchman. The portfolio includes the many of the plates used in Hinchman’s book, “Sketches & Poems.” The sketches were done during Hinchman’s time at a machine shop in Ohio at the end of the civil war, on a survey trip (1867-1868) for a transcontinental railway from Kansas to California, sketches of the Pennsylvania Steel Company (1869), sketches of animals, flowers, trees, people, and...
Scope and Content note This collection is comprised of the papers of Walter Hinchman. Three of the items are biographical manuscripts, including a tribute read at his funeral, but there are also two letters by Hinchman, one directed to his uncle, Joseph W. Taylor and another to his cousin, Sarah Thomas. As well, there are two drawings by Hinchman.
