The manuscript of Eugene C. Elser's dissertation analyzes the rhetoric of George Fox in his journal entries and analyzes George Fox as a "charismatic communicator."

This collection is comprised of essays, sermons, & lectures related to Quakers and Quaker history.

"Foundations of English Literature," written by F.B. Gummere, a professor of English at Haverford, discusses the history of the English language, and the history of various genres of English literature.

Walter B. Fulghum's dissertation "Quaker Influences on Whitman's Religious Thought" analyzes the influences of Quakerism, particularly the influences of Elias Hicks and Hicksite Quakerism, on Walt Whitman's religious thought. The manuscript discusses ways in which Whitman's personal demeanor and behavior reflected a Quaker influence, and connects Quakerism to the themes in Whitman's "Leaves of Grass."

The manuscript of Earl G. Harrison provides a historical overview of Quakerism from the emergence of the Society of Friends to the Orthodox-Hicksite and the Wilburite-Gurneyite separations. Harrison discusses both groups of Quakers in favor of, and opposed to, the ecumenical movement, and analyzes trends towards unity within Quakerism.

Douglas Heath's "Growing up in College: Liberal Education and Maturity" expands upon Heath's work, "Explorations of Maturity," and studies a small group of young men at a single college using the "theory of maturity." The book aims to assist educators to clarify the goals of liberal education, and to explore what types of environmental determinants affect healthy development in young adults.

Robert Ion's undergraduate thesis, entitled "The Theology of Early Friends with Special Reference to that of Isaac Penington," includes a history of Quaker theology, a summary of Isaac Penington's life, and a brief biography of Robert Barclay and William Penn.

Paul M. James's manuscript, entitled "Cromwell and the Quakers: A Historical Dissertation," compares the lives of Oliver Cromwell and George Fox, their relationship to each other, and their affect on the Puritan movement in England. The manuscript was James's thesis for his bachelor's from University College, University of Wales, in 1952.

"The Reality of the Spiritual World," was originally a series of lectures given by Thomas R. Kelly in New York in the Spring of 1940, and given again at Pendle Hill and published in 1942. The volume includes reflections on the nature of God and the nature of the spiritual world.

The collection includes three unpublished stories: "The Fight for the Marsh," "The Freedom Trail," and "The Hawley House Mystery."
