Scattered items relating to peacemaking efforts and social justice projects of the Church of the Brethren. Includes some items about Civilian Public Service camps administered by the Church of the Brethren, and about the Brethren Service Committee, later called the Brethren Service Commission.

Abstract

The Federal Council of Churches organized its Committee on the Conscientious Objector under its Department of International Justice and Goodwill in 1941. The Committee was interested in all aspects of conscientious objection, especially religious life in Civilian Public Service camps. Among the Committee's projects was the organizing of a program of visitation to CPS camps.

Overview Nelson Fuson was a physicist and educator, active in Quaker concerns. The collection contains extensive correspondence and papers concerning his service as a conscientious objector in Civilian Public Service during World War II. As the child of missionaries to China, his hope was to do relief service in China, and many of the papers deal with CPS China Units.
