Luther W. Spoehr papers

Abstract

This collection consists of materials created and collected by Luther W. Spoehr, Haverford Class of 1969. Many of the materials pertain to committees on which Spoehr served, but the collection also contains materials related to Class Night 1969, Haverford College publications, and an article on the May 1970 Haverford College trip to Washington, D.C. The collection also includes Spoehr's lecture notes from two history courses and two English courses.

Abstract Douglas and Dorothy Steere were prominent figures of the Quaker movement in the twentieth century, and deeply committed to the causes of peace and spiritual enrichment. This commitment is evident in their involvement with Quaker-led relief work after World War II, Quaker spiritual retreats, international diplomacy, and Dorothy’s work with the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s. This collection is comprised of the single volume manuscript of the "Poems of Su-Shieh," and the labels that accompanied it during an earlier exhibit. This modern copy of the poems of Su Shi was produced as a copy book for practice in handwriting.
