Abstract This small volume contains songs and poems collected by Thomas S. Downing Jr. (1852–1926) during his time at Haverford College. Downing, the son of a prosperous farmer in West Whiteland, Chester County, Pennsylvania, attended Haverford from 1869 through 1872. After graduating, Downing returned to Chester County and became a farmer. Various Haverford students wrote verses in Downing's songbook, some traditional and some original compositions. J.P. Elkinton autobiography

Abstract

J. P. Elkinton’s autobiography describes his childhood and family, his attendance at Haverford College, from which he graduated in 1908. He also describes his experiences with the Society of Friends, particularly his travels on religious visits, and his adult life with his wife, Mary Bucknell, and their children. In addition to stories from various periods of his life, he provides biographical sketches of his family members.
