The papers of Fred Rodell (1907-1980), a 1926 graduate of Haverford College and long-time professor of law at Yale University. The papers consist of correspondence, published and unpublished writing, scrapbooks of Rodell's written work, and albums of personal photographs.

C. Marshall (Caleb Marshall) Taylor (1884-1957) was a Quaker businessman and book collector, of Montclair, New Jersey. The collection contains papers relating to Taylor's activities as collector of the books and manuscripts of John Greenleaf Whittier, and correspondence reflecting Taylor's advocacy of liberal Quakerism.

Overview

This collection traces several generations of the Quaker Taylor family, but centers on Francis R. Taylor (1884-1947) and George Washington Taylor (1803-1891). The former was an attorney and collector of information about his own and related families, as well as local historical information. The latter, who ran a free produce store in Philadelphia in the period before the American Civil War, was connected through his interests in free labor to many correspondents.

Scope and content note

This volume includes correspondence related to the 150th anniversary of John G. Whittier’s birth, discussion of publication of a volume of his poetry, information on the Whittier Anniversary committee, including a list of the committee members, as well as clippings of printed poems by J.G. Whittier and hymns. The majority of correspondence is addressed to Marshall Taylor, and it is likely that it is his scrapbook, though the owner of the volume is unclear.

Margaretta Walton (1829-1904), eminent Quaker minister of Ercildoun, Chester County, Pennsylvania. The collection contains diaries and correspondence of Walton and her husband, Jesse Pusey Walton; business papers and memorabilia; sermons; and related papers. Also included in the collections are journals (1836-1853) of her father, Joseph Shoemaker Walton, who was companion to several Quaker ministers.
