The letters in this file were addressed to Morris by the following merchants and mercantile firms in Portland, Maine: Thomas Chadwick & Co. (celebrating Morris's safe return home after his "journey to the East"), Henry Smith & Co. (requesting purchase of Kentucky yarns or hemp on their behalf), John S. Dupree (looking for drugs and medicines and consigning juniper berries to Morris to purchase phials), Jacob Cram (rum), and Hezekiah Winslow (asking about market for cut nails and the price of corn flour).
