Scope and Contents

A binder of exhibits 1-13 presented in the Fierro v. Harris case in California. Exhibits 1-6 are declarations from physicians or scientists taken in April 1992. All six state that execution by cyanide gas used at San Quentin Prison is a painful and needlessly cruel procedure. Exhibits 7-13 are documents related to San Quentin Gas Chamber Operations. This includes the Lethal Gas Chamber Execution Records from the San Quentin Prison from 1946-1967, operation instructions for the gas chamber, the San Quentin State Prison Hospital Staff Meeting Minutes from June 14, 1950 which discuss the legal execution of Huizenga, the unexpected death of Hronis, and the procedure and executions, a page from the Department of Corrections Administrative Manual regarding Medical Services after death, a Department Issue Memo regarding the possible relocation of the gas chamber and alternative execution methods, a memo regarding the costs of the gas chamber, and a copy of the Report of Inspection of the Lethal Gas Chamber at the San Quentin Prison which recommended repairs and maintenance. A table of contents is present at the front of the volume.
