Scope and Contents

Authorization: for the ship Amazon, Master Samuel R. Trevett DS. Presidential authorization allowing the Amazon "to pass with her company, passengers, goods and merchandise, without any hindrance, seizure or molestation." On the reverse is a statement, signed by Joseph Pitcairn, Consul of the United States at Hamburgh, certifying that the ship is "now mounted with fourteen guns," and dated 30 March 1799.
