Biographical / Historical

Cremona Satterthwaite was enslaved by the Morrey family but was freed in 1715 by Richard Morrey, and afterwards she continued to work in the Morrey household as a servant. She became romantically involved with Richard Morrey, and the couple had five children. Though they could not legally wed, they were known as a couple. Richard left Cremona the 198 acres of land upon his death. (Information from WHYY, "Philadelphia recognizes a piece of regional history through The Montiers family")
