Scope and Contents
Info Projects 83-1 to 83-29. HC French Professor Marcel Gutwirth named the college's first Jaan and John Whitehead Professor, which honors John Whitehead, Class of 1943, who served as chairman of HC's Board of Managers for ten years (83-2). Stephen Tessino appointed controller of Haverford College, placing him in charge of account functions of the college (83-3). HC senior Paul Robiolio awarded Marshall scholarship for postgraduate study in England, making him the third HC student in the college's history to receive the scholarship (83-8). Kevin Bishop also awarded Marshall scholarship (83-11, 83-12). HC junior Beverly Ortega elected President of the Students' Council, the first woman in the 150-year history of the college to be elected (83-15). The fourth annual Dialogue on the Unity of Religions, sponsored by HC's Gest Center, to discuss death and eternal life in christianity versus buddhism (83-19). The Pew Memorial Trust makes a $435,000 grant to Haverford College to strengthen the college's computing system (83-20). Arbor Day Planting held in memory of Margaret O'Brien, a former Drexel Hill resident and the College's switchboard operator from 1975 until her death in May, 1982.
