Okinawa Relief Correspondence, 1949-1950
Scope and Contents
This folder includes correspondence about the relief efforts in Hawaii for Okinawa. Gilbert Bowles is the most common correspondent. Most of the correspondence is related to shipping and the logistics, but also includes discussion of the work of Dr. and Mrs. Shusei Yamashiro with the Widow's Mite Society (Japanese name was, according to Bowles, Repta Kwai). (Within that discussion are a set of letters from Bowles vouching for their conduct with the authorities on Okinawa. There seemed to have been an issue with a passport.) Also included are copies of freight receipts for 1950 including the logistical planning for the shipment of organs (the instrument).
