Scope and Contents

This file contains bills and receipts belonging to Luke W. Morris. It includes accounts with Stephen M. Day for tuition, copy books, pens, fuel, and other school supplies for his son Samuel B. Morris. There are articles of agreement between Morris and Thomas Owen for Owen to work on Morris's farm. There is also an agreement between Morris and James Kay. As of December 31, 1804, Kay owed Morris $11.02 "for which I do bind myself to work for him when he shall require it any time in the coming year at 40/100 p diem, until the said balance is justly paid also to continue to work for him at any kind of Labour as long afterwards in said year as he shall choose at the same price in default of which I do hereby bind myself in the sum of twenty dollars." Finally, there are bills from and payments to Samuel Pancoast Jr. (nails and other small metal items); William Brick/John & William Brick (molasses, rum, sugar, and other household goods); Samuel Smith (calf skins); Caleb Stevenson (shoes/mending shoes); Joseph Feason (cloth and soap); John Barnett (bull hide); Edmund Brewer (hide); John Clement (shoes); Thomas Owen (wages); Micajah Clement (beef); Hannah Pancoast (described as "Mother Pancoast," sugar); John Githens (wheel); Lewis Walker (hats); Ace Gibbs (cedar); Isaac Kay (sugar and salt); Joseph Griffith (writing and acknowledging a deed); Job Eldridge (buckwheat meal); Evans & Williams (cedar shingles); Frederick Hines (weaving bed ticking); Jeremiah Elfreth (dough trough); James Matlack; Michael C. Fisher; Wharton & Palmer (salt); Robert Bowand; David Henry (principal and interest on a note); Isaac Tomlinson (putting a beam in a plow); Apollo Woodward (mason work); and David Cox (rails).
