Scope and Contents
This file contains bills and receipts belonging to Luke W. Morris. It includes payment to Ann Thomas for an unidentified daughter's tuition and school supplies; payment to Hannah Osborne for his daughter Mary's tuition; payment to Hannah Parker for Esther Dandles's tuition; payments for purchases from the Philadelphia "Prison Factory" (cloth brushes, hearth brush, nails, soling shoes, as well as cordwaining and smith work); payment to Isaac T. Hopper for tailoring; and a receipt for payment to Josiah Claypoole. There is also a letter to Luke W. Morris from Abel Clement dated March 18, 1811 in which Clement writes to "...assure thee that it would be vain for any person to attemt to make me believe much more Jacob, that thee would be guilty of the Act he maliciously charg'd thee with. I have seen the others that were present at the time, who are of the same opinion with my self." There are also drafts of a letter to "My Dear Jacob" in which Morris describes how the recipient wounded his feelings.
