Scope and Contents

Letters: London, to [Francis Jeffrey], 1773-1850; to "Dear Sir"; to "Dear Lyons"

3 ALS. Jeffrey letter promises to send his correspondent, editor of the Edinburgh Review, an article on Keats's poetry as soon as he has read the latest volume published. As a postscript, states that he does not "know any one acquainted with Mr. Maturin." "Dear Sir" letter critiques his correspondent's book of poetry. "Do not think me impertinent if I say that I think you should give great care to the structure of your verse . . . I have come to the conclusion that there should be something more of a regularity in verse than I used to think - & more than, I apprehend, you consider as necessary . . . There are many good thoughts & a boldness . . . in your poems." "Dear Lyons" letter: "Look at the enclosed - Will it do? If you wish to suggest . . . additions or omissions let me know . . . How is Leander? or rather how is Hero? for the gentleman must be dead by this time - all at the bottom of the monstrous Sea."
