Starr Scholarship Fund has been established at Haverford College through a gift of $141,500 from The Starr Foundation, and will specifically support scholarships for foreign undergraduates (81-2). Senior Mike Racke named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Player of the Week for his work on the HC basketball team (81-6). Luis A. Feldstein named editor-in-chief of The News, a student publication of both Haverford and Bryn Mawr (81-7). Paula Singer named director of college relations at Haverford College (81-8). Pennsylvania State Senator T. Milton Street to speak at Haverford College (81-15). Robert A. Katz appointed sports information director at HC (81-16). Dorothy R. Stefferns appointed conference director at Haverford College (81-17). Haverford College to implement an aggressive energy conservation program (81-21). Former HC President John R. Coleman to speak on prisons during a visit to HC (81-22). Adam Levy and David Schwed, two HC students, invented and installed a "beeper" to warn those in dorm showers of when to step out of the stream after a toilet is flushed, preventing the student from being "scalded" by the hot water (81-23). Alfred P. Sloan Foundation grants HC $100,000 in partial support of a science education program for minority students (81-24). Abigail Adams, Alice Brown, Julie Fanburg, Andrea Carlos, Lisa Halpern, Jennifer Northrop, and Kathy Wistar earn varsity letters for their work on the new women's basketball team at Haverford (81-27 through 81-33).
