Letters written while P.D.I.M., J.S.M., and W.M.M. travel across western Europe.
Their itinerary was as follows: New York, Holland-America Cruise Line, Paris, Geneva, Interlaken, Zermatt, Andermatt, Weissenburg, Heidelburg, Köln a Rhein (sp), Amsterdam, London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Keswick, Chester, Leamington and Devon.
P.D.I.M. often expresses a sense of longing for A.S.M., who remains at home. A.S.M. discuss the predominantly mundane aspects of maintaining Harriton and inquires what the boys have experienced abroad.
