Materials Specific Details
1970/71: Faculty mortgage; proposed Haverford Household Association (faculty housing on campus) 4/21/71 lease to Merion Golf club for parking for U. S. Open 1971/72: Concern over AAC as pressure group—conflict with administration;examination of administration salaries and finances as part of budget review 1972/73: Faculty handbook revisions; analysis of Gubins Report” on budget projections for expanded student body. The committee has done or attempted a number of things over its five year history. Sometimes the administration has asked for specific AAC approval for proposals, ranging from the trivial to the momentous; more often it makes major budgetary decisions without consultation or even notification. The committee has often ignored its own predecessors when setting its priorities or agenda. The Academic Council, in choosing committee members, has similarly ignored its requests for, e.g. continuity of membership. The faculty as a whole has requested that the committee perform a variety of jobs: fighting for a larger slice of the budgetary pie, saving the trees, acting as ombudsman for unfairly treated members of the staff. 2/19/74 1974/1975: Budget 1977/78: Request for anticipated and desired changes in departmental budgets—responses from simple (history) to elaborate (biology) (summary 4/19/78); 1980/81: Priorities for physical plant; faculty housing and sale of college-owned off-campus houses to faculty; report on decline of faculty compensation 1981/82: Faculty housing management; faculty compensation and benefits; 1982/83: Housing; budget 1984/85: Maternity leave (faculty) and other benefits;1986/87 budget; Middle States Accreditation report and response (not good); bi-college (BM) career planning program traditional roles as budget committee and a locus for faculty concerns about conditions of employment; additional responsibility of overseeing visiting committees for administrative offices. Too much to take on long range planning—should be separate committee. 1986/87: Medical benefit for faculty on unpaid leave. 1990/91: Watch on Waste (WOW) to reduce wasteful use of paper; debate on enrollment size (1020 vs. 2000+)—additional student income goes to deferred maintenance
