Scope and Contents
Memoranda, correspondence, and background material on discussion with Bartol Research Institute for physics and astronomy, to relocate on the Haverford or Bryn Mawr campuses. The intention was to develop a mechanism by which a scientific research institute and an undergraduate liberal arts college can interact in such a way as to enhance the work of each. The file includes statements in support and against Bartol, with considerations for educational benefit, Department of Defense support, siting, and relations with other parts of the College. There is also correspondence over dispute between Haverford and Bryn Mawr over which had precedence. The Institute was concluding a 50 year lease at Swarthmore; it finally went to the University of Delaware.
