Scope and Contents
Memoranda, correspondence, reports on Bryn Mawr and Haverford efforts to cooperate, with goals to enhance the coeducational community, enrich academic offerings, provide greater economic efficiency and diversity of living experiences, while maintaining distinctive and often incompatible needs (November 1973). These files document the full range of progress and failure on the colleges’ cross-majoring, cross-registration imbalances and billing, faculty appointments/leave, admission policies (expansion and admission of women), cost sharing for two-college programs. Some of the specific reports and issues include: Bryn Mawr College report of the President’s Committee on Long Term Needs, May 1972; Achieving Closer Working Relations between Business Functions Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges, [1972]; A Haverford View of the State of Intercollege Cooperation, September 1972; “Working papers for Bi-college (Board/Administration/Faculty/Students) Report (report is in file #1) File #2”—cross registration statistics, 1969-1974, with draft of 1974 report; Status of Cooperation: A Haverford Review, December 1975; 1976 Bryn Mawr and Haverford packets with cooperation and other documents preceding December 1976 Haverford Board decision on coeducation; BMC Ad Hoc Committee on Financial Planning (Healy Report), 1977; Cooperation Questionnaire responses on current state of cooperation and its relationship to staff needs, 1982; Ford Foundation grant for inter-institutional faculty development program, 1983; BA/MA cross registration, 1983-85; Joint Board Statement of Academic Cooperation, 1986, with formation of Two-College Committee for Academic Cooperation to “develop a more structured system not only of academic consultation but also of academic decision-making; Bryn Mawr Plan for Achieving Financial Equilibrium, 1987; establishing joint departments, 1988; Middle States review section on cooperation with Haverford, 1988.
