Scope and Contents

A coin issued in 1840 by the British and Foreign Anti-Slavery Society to honor Thomas Clarkson. In box. Front of coin depicts Thomas Clarkson and his name. Back of coin depicts a slave shackled but with his arms upraised; underneath are the words “Am I not a man and a brother.” Circumscribing the back are the words “General Anti-Slavery Convention held in London 1840,” “Thomas Clarkson, aged 81,” and “British and Foreign Anti-Slavery Society.”
