In addition to casual and musical correspondence, many of John Davison's correspondents share their essays and articles on various topics. Raymond F. Glover, General Editor of The Church Hymnal Corporation writes asking for JD's input in the publication of Hymnal Studies No. 1. Fred Fisher writes in response to a concert review in the Rochester Review. Philip Greene sends more of his published newspaper articles. Sheldon Vanauken responds to JD's letter to the editor of the New Oxford Review regarding Mr. Vanauken's essay about the Anglican and Catholic Churches. In his response, he includes another essay, which is the sequel to the first. JD's letter to the editor is also included in this file. David Povolny writes a strongly worded explanation for his refusal to accept nomination into the Phi Beta Kappa Society based on his belief that the Society promotes human intellect over God's.
