II. Rufus M. Jones Diaries and Datebooks
Scope and Contents
This series contains diaries and datebooks maintained by Rufus Jones. In addition to recording public appearances and appointments, the datebooks contain financial accounts, notes, quotations, and references. One 1933 datebook is not in Rufus Jones's hand and may belong to Elizabeth Cadbury Jones.
The 1926 diary chronicles Jones's journeys across the Pacific Ocean, to Japan, China, the Philippines and India, between June and December of 1926. While in Asia, Jones gave lectures at educational and spiritual gatherings and met with prominent political and spiritual leaders of the time, including Mahatma Gandhi, Silas Strawn, Eiichi Shibusawa and W. W. Yen. These experiences, as well as citations from Jones' contemporary research, are documented here.
The 1932 diary describes Jones's trip to Hong Kong.
