Historical note
Lingnan University was founded by missionaries of the Religious Society of Friends as a missionary school in Canton, China in 1884. It was incorporated in New York State in 1893 as the Christian College in China. In 1903, the name was changed to Canton Christian College, and in 1926 the name was again changed to Ling Nan University. The university was reorganized and taken over by the Chinese in 1927.
