Scope and Content note

Diary entries in this volume describe Rice's voyages with the navy, including the weather and caring for sick sailors. He appears to have been stationed near New Orleans, Louisiana during the end of the War of 1812, and entries include news of military defeats during the war. Later entries describe his visit to family in Philadelphia and his attendance at social gatherings.
