Francis Barton Gummere songbook and notebooks

Abstract

The Francis Barton Gummere songbook and notebooks consists of three volumes of papers created by Gummere. There is a songbook created during his time at Haverford College in addition to his notebooks on Germanic life and the philosphy of Baruch Spinoza.

John C. Whitehead papers

John C. Whitehead was a long-time member of Haverford's Board of Managers and Co-Chairman of Goldman Sachs. Materials in this collection represent his time as a student at Haverford, as well as his continued involvement with the College over the years.

John Randolph Winslow commonplace book

Abstract

The commonplace book was created while Winslow was attending Haverford College. Winslow entered the college in 1838 in the Junior class, and transcribed many songs during his time there. Handwritten notes and excerpts can be found in the songbook as well. The book ends in 1840, presumably when Winslow graduated. He later went on to become a professor, physician, and surgeon in Baltimore, Maryland.

David Holder Nichols autograph album

David Holder Nichols produced an autograph album of faculty and peers during his time at Haverford. The album contains many pictures and signatures of his graduating class.

Edwin Tomlinson autograph album

Abstract

The Edwin Tomlinson autograph album contains signatures and selected quotes from students at Haverford College from 1858 to 1859. The album was compiled by Tomlinson, who later left Haverford College to become a farmer. The signatures within the album range from Tomlinson's peers to the officers above him.

Randolph Wood commonplace book

Abstract

This is a commonplace book with signatures of several well known Quakers who were connected with Westtown School and Haverford College. It includes signatures and notes from officers and peers, mainly from Haverford class of 1858. Along with the autographs are the dates they were collected, the hometown of the person, and the place where the autograph was collected.

Richard Thomas Jones autograph album

Abstract

This small volume contains autographs from faculty and students at Haverford College. It also includes newspaper clippings about marriages and deaths of people associated with Haverford College, and commencement ceremonies. Some of the autographs contain handwritten poems, and some quotes are in Greek.

William A. Brown autograph album

Abstract

This small album contains autographs from students at Haverford College and Penn College who were friends with William A. Brown. The entries contain short notes or poems along with the person's signature, the date (between 1835 and 1838), and their college affiliation. There are also pencil annotations throughout the next labeling some entires as "original" and adding the fill names of some people who only wrote their initials.

Samuel Bunting Haines autograph album

Abstract

The autograph album was created during Haines's time at Haverford College. The book contains signatures of his peers and professors from 1858. Haines left the College to later become a lieutenant for the 121st Regiment in the Pennsylvania Volunteers from 1862 to 1863.

William H. Haines autograph album and songbook

Abstract

This album contains about ten entries of autographs that were pasted into a volume between 1868 and 1871. These entries contain people's names and sometimes the date and their college affiliation. Most of the entries in this album are song lyrics. At the bottom of the lyrics are names of Haverford students, the year the lyrics were added to the album, their graduation year, and their hometown.
