Hats by Post

Hats by Post was a literary circular which published "poems, stories, snapshots, commentary, correspondence, and gripes." Before their first public publication in Spring 1997, hats*by*post was originally a “secret” publication that distributed a limited number of each issue (no more than 40 copies) to a small group of “literary-type friends.” This tradition began with the publication’s inception in the early sixties. When editors Brent Sirota ‘98 and Isaac Zaur ‘99 decided to take hats*by*post public, they were met with backlash from alumni who expected the publication would always remain a private literary work passed down through generations. Though upsetting to some, this change allowed hats*by*post to receive Students’ Council funding and spread their experimental writing across Haverford campus. hats*by*post may also have evolved from a magazine called Zombie that was published by the English department for almost thirty years.
