Scope and Contents

The collection consists of a photo album that documents Dorothy Franklin's missionary work in Bolivia and her travel in South America during the inter war period, 1934-1941. There are 161 original photographs in the album, mostly taken during Franklin's time in South America; however the last four pages are dedicated to Franklin's home life in the US and her family. The album containts photos of landscapes, Franklin herself and her associates, llamas, and pictures from the Bible school. The majority of the photos are either of landscapes from momentous trips, such as Franklin's visit to Lima and hiking in the Andes, or of moments associated with Franklin's work at the Bible School, including multiple group pictures with students of the school. Most photographs were labelled by Franklin.

Biographical note

Dorothy Franklin was an American Quaker missionary who worked in Bolivia during the inter-war period, between 1934 and 1941. In Bolivia, she spent most of her time involved with the mission and the Bible school in La Paz, which was under the jurisdiction of the Oregon Yearly Meeting of Friends. She also traveled to Peru and Colombia, and throughout Bolivia during her time in South America.
