Biographical / Historical
Frederic Palmer, Jr. was born in Brookline, Massachusetts on October 17, 1878. He attended the Phillips Academy and Harvard University, from which he graduated in 1900 with a degree in Physics. He obtained his MA from Harvard in 1904 and then became an instructor at Haverford College, before finishing his PhD at Harvard in 1913.
Palmer was a member of the American Association of Physics Teachers and published multiple papers about pedagogy in Physics. He retired from Haverford College in 1945 in order to work for the National Defense Research Committee until the end of World War II. Then he worked at the Franklin Institute of Philadelphia before retiring at the age of 80. Palmer died in 1967.
