This collection consists of a letter written by Keith Smiley and addressed to Dave Smiley. The letter is in regards to Keith's faith and beliefs in the forms of Jesus Christ after a Marasquan Friends Meeting in New Jersey. Keith Smiley also references the Guilford Conference in North Carolina and a Friends Meeting in New Paltz, New York.

Biographical / Historical

Albert Keith Smiley (1910-2001) grew up and ran the Mohonk Mountain House, a resort rooted in environmental stewardship and Quaker values in New Paltz, New York. He earned a bachelor's degree from Haverford College in 1932 and was a board member of the Production for Productivity Foundation from 1969 to 1999 at the resort. He was an active Quaker, attending New York Yearly Meetings and New Paltz Friends Meetings, as well as acting as the Chair of Committee on Revision of Book of Discipline, Faith section and Committee for Study of Faith and Beliefs. He was also involved in the Friends World Committee and the Quaker United Nations Office.
