Biographical Note

Henry J. Cadbury (1883-1974) was a Philadelphia-born Quaker who recieved a B.A. in classics and philosophy from Haverford College in 1903 and recieved a M.A. in 1904 and a Ph.D in 1914 at Harvard University. He also helped found the American Friends Service Committee in 1917 that he chairmaned for 22 years (1928-1934;1944-1960). This committee would earn a Nobel Prize in 1947 to which he gave an acceptance speech.
