Scope and Contents

This collection contains a 1948 copy of George Fox's 'Book of Miracles' as well as various corresponding items. This includes a letter from Douglas G. Lister to Henry J. Cadbury, multiple letters from Janet F. Rice of the Cambridge University Press Subsidiary Rights Department confirming that Cadbury will recieve two complimentary copies of the reprinted book once published in 1973, a letter directly from Octagon Books's Editor-In-Chief Henry G. Schlanger, and many more materials related to Henry J. Cadbury and/or George Fox. This collection also contains a revised list of Haverford Meeting attendees and members in 1898 by Mary Rhoads Garrett, and an 1881 copy of "How To Enter Into Rest."

Biographical Note

This copy of 'Book of Miracles' is of the original 1948 version published by the Cambridge University Press. Henry J. Cadbury is author of its introduction and notes. Cadbury was born on December 1st, 1883 in Philadelphia, PA. He earned his B.A. at Haverford College and earned his Ph.D. from Harvard University. He was also a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of the American Friends Service Committee in 1947. Cadbury passed away on October 7th, 1974 at age 91. Rufus M. Jones, author of the book's foreword, was born on January 25th, 1863 in Charleston, SC. He earned his B.A. and M.A. at Haverford College and earned another M.A. from Harvard University. He was also a board of trustee at Bryn Mawr College from 1898 to 1936. Jones passed away on June 16th, 1948 at age 85. George Fox, whom the book is based on, was born in July of 1624 in Fenny Drayton, UK. He was one of the founders of the Religious Society of Friends and still remains vastly influential in Quakerism today. He passed away on January 13th, 1691 at age 67.
