Historical Note
Henry J. Cadbury was born on December 1st, 1883 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of Haverford and earned his Ph.D. at Harvard University. In 1947, he accepted a Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of the American Friends Service Committee and the Religious Society of Friends. Cadbury passed away on October 7th, 1974.
Avis G. Clarke was born on July 13th, 1902 in Webster, Massachusetts. She was a cataloger for the American Antiquarian Society in 1966. Clarke passed away December 7th, 1984. The American Antiquarian Society, located in Worcester, Massachusetts, is both a learned society founded in 1812 and a national research library that has been running since 1876.
