Scope and Contents
This collection contains one lecture book containing notes about a Haverford health and hygiene course. The notes discuss what times of day are best to eat meals, whether meat is necessary to a healthy diet, and how to practice good personal health, among other topics. The lecture book contains notes on fourteen lectures. The last page of the book contains the message: "Gentle Reader you have been fooled if you have read over these pages. Yours truly, a friend."

Biographical Note
This lecture book may have belonged to James Carey, a Haverford non-graduate who entered Haverford in 1835 and left in 1836. Born in Baltimore, Maryland on January 20, 1821, Carey married Susan Budd Kimber in 1850 and passed away on October 8, 1894. The last name "Hartshorne" is also written on the inside cover of the lecture book. This may refer to the professor of the course.
