Biographical / Historical

Paul Glover was born on July 18, 1947 in Canandaigua, New York and moved to Ithaca, New York with his family at the age of 5. During his time in Ithaca, Glover became a staunch supporter of sustainable development and human rights. He founded the Ithaca Health Alliance, a community healthcare cooperative, and Ithaca HOURS, an alternative currency designed to keep cash circulating within the local area. Glover’s grassroots activism also extends to both Los Angeles and Philadelphia with organizations including, but not limited to, the Citizen Planners of Los Angeles, the Philadelphia Orchard Project, League of Uninsured Voters, the Patch Adams Free Clinic Philadelphia, Green Jobs Philly, Making Hunger Visible, Philahealthia, and Health Democracy. He received his B.A. in City Management from Summit University in Santa Monica, California in 1982. In 1978, Glover walked across the Continental United States on foot over a period of six months, beginning in Boston and ending in San Diego.

As a member of the Green Party, Glover also participated in a range of local and national elections as a mayoral candidate for Ithaca in 2003, a gubernatorial candidate for Pennsylvania in 2014 and 2018, and was nominated for President by the Green Party in the 2004 Presidential election, though he did not receive enough delegates to be the official nominee. Glover is also the author of several books and articles detailing his experience organizing local and national movements and building local, sustainable economies as well as having written numerous articles in community newspapers regarding social justice issues. He was an essayist for the Huffington Post from 2016-2017. In 1987, Glover was a lecturer in the Government Department of Cornell University and was a speaker at Science Awareness Week in 1989 at Cornell.
