Longstreth family correspondence
Scope and Contents
This collection is largely comprised of the correspondence of the Longstreth family. Approximately two-thirds of the letters were written by William C. Longstreth to his mother while he was a student at Westtown School in the 1890s. Some few were written from Haverford College, Back Log Camp, etc. Other letters are from Thomas K. Longstreth to Lucy Branson during their courtship and early marriage. A few letters are from relatives and friends to Lucy Branson Longstreth Roberts.

Biographical Note
Thomas Kimber Longstreth (1851-1883) was born in Springfield, Pennsylvania, on August 30, 1851, the son of William Collins Longstreth and Abby Ann Taylor. He married Lucy Branson in October of 1880, and the couple had one child, William Collins Longstreth (1881-1974). He died on March 3, 1883 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Lucy Branson Longstreth Roberts (1856-1936) was born in 1856 and was a life-long member of Philadelphia Monthly Meeting for the Western District (Orthodox), also known as Twelfth Street Monthly Meeting. She taught in the First Day School and was a founder of the Women's Foreign Missionary Society, which later became the Mission Board of the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting. She was a president of the Friends Historical Association and was active in the Friends' Library, formerly on 16th Street in Philadelphia. In 1880, she married Thomas Kimber Longstreth, a graduate of Haverford College and also a member of Twelfth Street Meeting. They had one child, William Collins Longstreth, born in 1882. Thomas K. Longstreth died in 1883. Lucy's second marriage, to Charles Roberts, took place at Twelfth Street Monthly Meeting in November, 1892. Charles died in 1902, and Lucy Roberts died in 1936.
William Collins Longstreth (1882-1974) was born on March 13, 1882, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Thomas Kimber Longstreth and Lucy Branson. He attended Westtown School and Haverford College. In April of 1917, he married Nella Thacher (1888-1958), and the couple had one child, William Thacher Longstreth (1920-2003). He died in May of 1974, in Haverford, Pennsylvania.
