Sharpless family papers
Scope and Contents
This collection is comprised of a single folder of materials of the Sharpless family, related to the Anna T. Jeanes and Joseph Jeanes Fund and the George School. The materials include correspondence (two items), minutes from the Joseph Jeanes Committee, information about the real estate holdings in the estate of Anna T. Jeanes, a pamphlet of the "Lists of Sub Committees Appointed by the George School Committee," a notebook of expenses, a small single volume address book, and a small day book for the George School.

Biographical Note
The Sharpless family in Pennsylvania were descended from John and Jane Sharples of England, who settled near Chester, Pennsylvania, in 1682.
Anna T. Jeanes (1822-1907) was a Philadelphia Quaker activist. With help from Booker T. Washington, she founded the Jeanes Foundation, which helped support the education of rural Black people in the United States.
The George School is a Quaker boarding School located in Newtown, Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1887.
