Scope and Contents
This collection centers on the materials accumulated by journalist Loren Ghiglione (Haverford College, class of 1963) to document the life of Fred Rodell (Haverford College, class of 1926) who gained wide recognition as a prolific writer and professor of law at Yale University. The collection contains some original material by Rodell, as well as a compilation of many of his articles. The result was a book edited by Ghiglione entitled Rodell revisited: selected writings of Fred Rodell, edited by Ghiglione and published in 1994. The book contains an introductory essay by Ghiglione.
There are two boxes in this collection. Box 1 includes:
Draft of Loren Ghiglione's essay with bibliography and lay-out of sections; articles about Fred Rodell; Christmas cards from Fred Rodell; Ghiglione correspondence with readers of his essay about Fred Rodell; articles citing Fred Rodell; Fred Rodell bio-bibliography; original typescripts by Fred Rodell and others; Ghiglione's interviews with various people about Fred Rodell

Biographical / Historical
Fred Rodell (1907-1980) was a law professor born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Haverford College in 1926 and received his law degree from Yale University in 1931. After attending law school, Rodell worked as a special legal advisor to Governor Gifford Pinchot of Pennsylvania until 1933, when he joined the faculty of the Yale Law School. He became a full professor in 1939 and remained at Yale until 1973, when he retired and received an honorary LL.D. from Haverford. During his career, Rodell maintained a large number of other activities, such as a feature writer for the Chicago Times (1940), Director of Cooperative Consumers, Inc. in New Haven, Connecticut (1941-1945), contributing editor for Progressive magazine (1943-?), working at the American Civil Liberties Union, and writing a great deal of legal journalism. Rodell was the author of Fifty-five Men: the Story of the Constitution (1936); Woe Unto You Lawyers (1939); Nine Men: a Political History of the Supreme Court from 1870 to 1955 (1955); as well as many articles.

Loren Ghiglione (1941-) received his B.A. from Haverford College in 1963, his Ph.D. in American civilization from George Washington University and his Master of Urban Studies and J.D. from Yale. A journalist, he owned and edited the Southbridge (Mass.) Evening News and ran its parent company, Worcester County Newspapers, for 26 years (1969-1995). He won two dozen regional and national awards for reporting and editorial writing.
