Biographical Note
Walter Robson (1842-1929) was born March 30, 1842, at Saffron Walden, England, the son of John Stephenson and Rachel (Green) Robson. Robson was apprenticed in the family grocery business, Robson, Green & Co. In 1867, Robson accompanied his cousin Joseph James Neave to Australia, where he later met his wife. In 1869, he married M. Christina Cox of Wollongong, near Sydney, Australia. The couple had four children. The couple returned to England in 1870, at which time Christina became a partner in the family business. From 1877 to 1878, Robson visited the United States, where he attended seven Yearly Meetings and addressed open-air assemblies. His ministry would be considered “evangelical.” Robson was a committee member for Saffron Walden School from 1876 to 1929, and served his city government as magistrate and as treasurer for many years. He died on December 15, 1929, at Saffron Walden at the age of 87.
