Scope and Contents
This collection is comprised of the single handwritten diary of Sarah "Sallie" Wistar. Early entries describe Sallie's classes and studies in her efforts to earn her high school diploma, while later entries describe social calls, illnesses in the family, and other family news, as well as Sallie's responsibilities as the eldest daughter living at home.

Biographical Note
Sarah Wistar (1839-1920) was born February 14, 1839, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Caspar and Lydia J. Wistar. On November 28, 1866, she married William G. Rhoads. They were members of Germantown Monthly Meeting. The couple had five children: Jane G. Rhoads (1870), Ethel Rhoads (1871), Edward Rhoads (1873), William G. Rhoads (1876), and Samuel Rhoads (1878). Sarah Wistar Rhoads died on November 3, 1920, at the age of 81.
