Biographical Note
Rebecca Wright (1760-?) was born in Dorchester County, Maryland, to William and Elizabeth Wright. Rebecca's father died while she was still young, in 1773, and afterwards, Rebecca and her mother moved frequently throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey, as indicated by multiple requests for removal certificates from various Monthly Meetings in the area. In 1783, Wright first approached the Philadelphia Monthly Meeting about making a Religious visit. In the 12th month, 1784, Wright set out from Chester, Pennsylvania, for her religious visit to England and Ireland, where she attended meetings and visited Quaker families. On her voyage to Ireland, Wright was accompanied by two other Quakers, John Howarth and Martha Mooney.
