Scope and Contents

The minute book begins with the constitution and by-laws of the Young Women's Christian Temperance Union of Philadelphia-Germantown. Minutes include those of regular monthly meetings as well as executive committee meetings. General topcis of discussion include reports on projects, such as evangelical work and literature distribution. Also included are a copy of the 6th Annual Report, 1890, a Resolution of Disbandment, and form letters soliciting funds for the Boys' Parlors.

Historical Note

The Young Women's Christian Temperance Union of Philadelphia-Germantown distributed literature in favor of its cause, arranged religious meetings, and worked to get the issue of temperance into the local press.

In November, 1889, they set off the Boys' Parlours, which had evening classes in trades as well as rooms for games and reading. They also provided religious instruction. The group disbanded in December, 1891, to concentrate their work on the Boy's Parlor.
