Thomas Wildes commonplace book
Scope and Contents
The commonplace book contains newspaper clippings, autographs, poetry and other writings written, or copied, by Thomas Wildes. It is 142 pages long and appears to be a collection of short writings that Wildes either transcribed or wrote himself in 1856.

Biographical Note
Thomas Wildes was born in Arneytown, New Jersey, on November 10, 1839. He entered Haverford College in 1855, but left at the close of his sophomore year in 1856. Wildes was a merchant and a Private in the New York 10th Infantry, 1861. During the Civil War, he was promoted to Captain and fought at several critical battles, including Antietam. Wildes studied medicine at the New York Homeopathic College and became a physician. He also became the United States Deputy Consul to Jamaica and climbed the marksman ranks in New York to hold the title as one of five crack shots in New York City. Thomas Wildes died in New York City on November 27, 1907.
