Scope and Contents

This collection contains the original manuscript and a typed copy of recollections by Thomas Stewardson. Recollections and excerpts from letters of Thomas Stewardson and his brother John Stewardson (1830-1856). Thomas Stewardson entered Haverford in 1841, and left with the temporary closing of the Insitution in 1845. (From the original MS volume in the hands of William L. Hires, Haverford College Class of 1941, purchased by him from a dealer in Atlantic City. The leather-bound volume in which the "Recollections" were written and letters laid in was apparently an old record book of a court clerk, 1822 and 1823, with the new material written in wherever there was space.
