Biographical Note

John Rutty (1698-1775) was born in 1698/1699 in Wiltshire, England, the son of Richard Rutty. He was educated in medicine in Leyden, Holland. He was an Elder in his meeting in Dublin, Ireland. He was doctor to John Wesley when Wesley visited Ireland. From 1739 to 1771, he published many tracts and books, including "History of the Rise and Progress of the People called Quakers" (1751), "A methodical synopsis of the Mineral Waters of Ireland" (1757), and "An Essay towards the Natural History of the County of Dublin" (1772). After his death in 1775, his spiritual diary was published.
