Scope and Contents
"Counterfeit copy of Amerigo Vespucci's Mundus Novus (Paris 1503). The original of this work was so eagerly sought by collectors that a forger (M. Peyre de la Grave?) created this pen facsimile on "aged" sheets of vellum. The engraved portions of the original title-page are reproduced photographically and then further embellished with the illuminated arms of King Louis XII." Contains a marginal image of a porcupine with a crown on its back.

Mundus Novus. Hand bound. Blank book. Hardcover green leather binding. Front and back covers decorated with ornate embossed embellishments. Spine labeled "ALBER. VESPU. RELAT." in gold lettering. Contained in slipcase. Marbled end papers. Bookplate: Ex Libris Helen Godey Wilson. Bookplate image shows two Native Americans greeting a European style boat ringed in light.

Very nice manuscript with a few illustrations and fancy binding; title page has become detached from the binding of the book.
