"When Marianne was at home, she happened to mention that when you had asked her to give her father's business or profession, she was obliged to own that she did not remember what it was. That she did not, evidently had no trace of queerness to her; but I at once determined to answer the question myself. For the sake of statistics, I know it is important that otherwise unimportant questions be asked; and answered. Marianne's father...was a mechanical engineer by profession."
