Scope and Contents

The papers of Anne Poage Funkhouser consist of typescript drafts and notes for her two published works: Voyage of Re-Discovery (1979) and Hieronimus Bosch (1980). Notes include typed and manuscript texts on subjects featured in the books, in addition to many other topics in Portuguese art and architecture. The notes are comprised of Funkhouser’s personal observations, citations of other published works in the field, photographs, and letters. The correspondence is principally concerned with matters regarding Funkhouser’s published works, for example, letters to her editor. Some of the photographs are Funkhouser’s original work, others are from other works and publications.

Anne Poage Funkhouser, BMC Class of 1933, MA 1936 (in German), traveled extensively throughout her life. In her later years she published the two books which are represented here in draft. Funkhouser wrote primarily about Portuguese art and architecture, specifically the Manueline period of the late 14th to mid-16th centuries.
