Scope and Contents

The Mary Peirce papers consist of the personal papers of Mary Peirce, Bryn Mawr class of 1912. The collection, which spans 1909-1973, consists primarily of Bryn Mawr memorabilia from during and after Peirce’s time at Bryn Mawr.

The collection is housed in one case, which contains a mixture of correspondence and Bryn Mawr materials.

The collection contains Bryn Mawr correspondence, 1972-73; materials concerning Bryn Mawr fundraising; Peirce’s fiftieth reunion, 1962; letters of 1912 medical doctors; letters re: death of Jean Stirling (Gregory); and personal correspondence, 1973-74. It also contains miscellaneous papers, 1909-1973 (includes material about 50th Reunion Gift); the Rare Book Room; and the class of 1912- 55th reunion, 1967. There are other materials filed elsewhere in the Archives pertaining to Peirce, including reunion and class memorabilia and commencement and anniversary invitations and programs.

The materials pertaining to reunion, as well as Pearce’s correspondence and miscellaneous papers provide insight into the lives of Bryn Mawr students long after their graduation. This memorabilia would be of use to those interested in the class of 1912 and the post-college lives of Bryn Mawr students.

Biographical / Historical

Mary Peirce was a member of the Bryn Mawr College class of 1912, graduating with a degree in Biblical Literature. While at college, she was highly involved in campus activities. She was class president throughout her career at Bryn Mawr, the Trophy Club Secretary, and on Students’ Council.
