Abstract
Michi Kawai was one of the first recipients of the Japanese Scholarship, graduating from Bryn Mawr in 1904 with high honors. She was an important figure in international Christian relationships and women's education in Japan. She was instrumental in founding the YWCA in Japan and later started Keisen School, which would become an important horticultural school for women.
